Design Dance is seeking a School Programs Coordinator to join our team for the Spring 2018 Term. This full-time, temporary role will report to the Director and will oversee grant-funded in-school youth programs between February - June 2018.
Design Dance was founded in 2008 out of a passion to bring dance to students throughout the Chicagoland area through unique, collaborative partnerships with schools and community centers. Our programming is designed to build courage, connection and self-awareness through innovative curriculum, a dedicated teaching staff and a commitment to meeting the needs of the communities we serve. Each student, regardless of ability level, is empowered to better express themselves and share stories through movement, performance and collaboration.
The School Programs Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing program quality in assigned school programs, building and maintaining meaningful connections with school administrators, and providing value based feedback to our team of teaching artists to support the impact of the classroom programs. The School Programs Coordinator will also communicate with parents and students to build community at our school sites as well as coordinating year-end showcases in the spring. A successful School Programs Coordinator will use their understanding of student needs, successful arts classroom indicators, and excellent communication skills to ensure the success of each program. The School Programs Coordinator will be expected to travel to school sites on a regular basis, while spending roughly 60% of their remaining time working alongside our team at our River North office.
A successful School Programs Coordinator is an expert listener and communicator, has a passion for arts education, and maintains a growth mindset, bringing insight to the team on innovative ways to increase programming and impact through dance. This position requires maintaining a positive attitude and solution-oriented outlook in the face of dealing with issues in managing teaching artists and meeting the needs of school administration. This position will be an ideal fit if you’ve had previous arts education experience, a love for working with children and experience managing an independent workload.
School Programs Coordinator must be available to work at our River North office as well as commuting to various school sites during regular work hours (9am - 5pm) on weekdays.
Responsibilities Include:
Overseeing program quality in all of our school partnerships
Providing feedback to teaching artists
Reviewing pre and post teaching assessments
Maintaining alignment with Design Dance curriculum
Observing classes and assessing achievement of social emotional learning objectives
Managing program oversight budget alignment
Leading planning and check-in meetings with teaching artists and school administration
Building and maintaining meaningful connections with parents and school administrators
Ongoing email and face to face communication with school administrators on needs and expectations
Event Coordination
Managing logistics for spring performances at assigned schools
