6th-8th Grade Poetry + Dance Program

Tuesdays, April 5th-May 31st, 2022

3:35-4:35 p.m.

Design Dance's Poetry + Dance Program pairs poetry writing with dance to showcase how movement can be a powerful form of storytelling, ultimately highlighting how dance can be used to embody emotions, express ideas, and activate the deepest parts of our imagination. Over the course of the program, students will identify their personal values and build empathy as they connect their personal poetry writing with movement construction through dance exercises, games, and technical practice. Through this, students will explore the modern and creative dance elements of Body, Action, Space, Time, and Energy, as they find movement connections that exist across various ELA themes, including quality, theme, tone, action, and word choice. At the end of the session, students will showcase to friends and families their class-generated choreography that complements either poetry of their choice or their own originally written work.
