Background Checks
Any individual working in a Chicago Public School is required to get fingerprinted and background checked.
CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Any individual working in a Chicago Public School is required to get fingerprinted and background checked through Accurate Biometrics in a Chicago location.

Please note: Hours and wait times vary by location. Call ahead of time to source this information before making the trip!
You must be checked using the Design Dance - CPS Fingerprinting form, as well as, Right At School and J@School forms. Should you be teaching with all three organizations, yes, you have to get checked three times!

When you complete your Accurate Biometrics visit, please get your printed receipt, take a picture, and send it to info@brainchildcollective.co.
You should receive an email indicating your clearance, but may also be asked to email vendorcheck@cps.edu or call 773-553-6503 to ensure that you are cleared to work in CPS schools.
Some schools and organizations also require a CANTS form, which is sent to the Department of Child and Family Services for approval.
All J@School locations require a CANTS form in addition to the fingerprinting and background check.
J@School locations also require a signed Instructor Protocol Agreement.
Design Dance, J@School, and RAS all have accounts with Accurate Biometrics and will cover 100% of the cost of background checks. You should not be asked to pay out of pocket at Accurate Biometrics
Because background checks are costly to the organization, please do not go in for a background check unless authorized by a Brainchild Collective staff member
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
The Archdiocese of Chicago is now requiring all individuals working in Catholic schools meet the below state requirements:
Fingerprint and background check
CANTS background check with no negative indications
Search of the Illinois Sexual Offender Registry
Search of the Illinois Murder and Violent Crimes against children registry
State of Illinois Mandated Reporter Training
Virtus Training Protecting God's Children
All Teaching Artists working in Catholic Schools must also complete Virtus Training in the first 30 days of your tenure at the catholic school.

Please note that you may be required to attend an in-person Virtus Training at a session location that works for you.
Once you complete one Virtus Training you are set to work in Catholic Schools for life.
If you have already taken training for the Archdiocese of Chicago:
Log in to your account at www.virtusonline.org and make sure it is approved, activated, and updated with your current location, role/title, and personal information.
PRE-SCHOOLS
All Teaching Artists working with students in pre-k levels must make an appointment with their primary care provider or an immediate care facility (Walgreens/CVS) and complete a TB test.
A TB test is required prior to starting the teaching position with this age group.
Design Dance will cover 50% of the cost of your TB test
You must provide proof of a clear TB test to Ali Drumm and/or Samantha Witthuhn prior to beginning your position.
